Experiencing God – Chapter 1

“There is a world of difference between knowing something to be true in your head and experiencing the reality in your life.” – Page 10

“Scripture is filled with descriptions of God’s character.   You can read these accounts and believe them to be true about God.  Yet God does not merely want you to read about Him, He wants you to know Him.” – Page 10

Moving from knowing about God to experiencing God is truly the most exciting part of a faith journey.  This chapter is just the beginning of some amazing God sightings that will grace the pages of this book.  I cannot tell you when this clicked in for me as a believer or when it clicked for my wife.  But, somewhere along the way we discovered that God will take care of us and that He protects us and our children.  We have lived in7 different places in our 11 years of marriage.  Each time having to almost start over and trust God to provide friends, fellowship and support.   Michelle (my wife) daily thanks God for His angels that watch over our children.

The stories about God’s provision are going to keep going.  Michelle and I have experienced this time and time again in our own lives.  I remember one time we were struggling to trust God with our finances as I contemplated a job opportunity.  We were both fearful to come to Southern California as we looked at the cost of living.  We had prayed about it and asked God to reveal His will for us.  That very week in church a friend gave us a check for $500 and said God had placed us on her mind and had told her to give us the check!  We both had tears well up in our eyes as we knew this was God’s way of comforting us and reminding us that He would provide for us.  And He continues to sustain us in sometimes the craziest of ways!

I have often used the names of God in my prayer times.  I find them to be very helpful for reminders of the intricacies and mysteries of God.  I find the names of God often cause my dependence on Him to grow.  I would encourage each of us to spend some time each day reflecting on God’s names and saying them to God to honor Him in prayer.
